The memorial built in 1868 on Šibeník hill is 20 m high. It was built to pay tribute to Marshal Ludvík von Gablenz, a warrior who commanded the victorious attack by the Austrian army in a battle in the Prussian–Austrian war on 27 June 1866. The second cast iron obelisk with staircase leading inside to the top is also Gablenz’s last repose. The very top of the obelisk offers a magnificent view to the west and northwest, across the whole of Trutnov and its environs.
