Karst Caves

The term karst applies to areas built of water-soluble rocks, where erosional and corrosional activity of water created underground cavities and caves accompanied by superficial karst phenomena (sinkholes, canyons, karren etc.)

The biggest and the best known karst system in the Geopark is the Bozkov Dolomite Cave, which is the only cave formed in dolomitic rocks in the Czech Republic. Other karst features can be found in calcareous portions of quartzose sandstones near Ondříkovice. They used to be considered a  pseudokarst system but their pertinence to true karst has been revealed by recent research.
