First International conference on geoparks adopted Peking Declaration (2004) on protection of geological heritage. Consequently the Global Geoparks Network has been established. According to Madonie declaration (PDF, 34.1 KB) (2004) each European geopark is at the same time a member of the Global Geoparks Network. Geoparks originate from the spontaneous joint work of various subjects within the area. Basic rules for geoparks in the Czech Republic has been set up by MoE regulation No. 6/2007. Bohemian Paradise became the first Czech member of European/Global Geopark Networks in 2005. The geopark with the area nearly 700 km2 is substantially larger than protected landscape area of the same name. The geopark includes variety of geological phenomena, paleontological, mineralogical and archeological localities and historical monuments.
