The European Geoparks Network was instituted by a Charter in 2000. EGN associates 31 geoparks from various European countries in 2007. The main aim of geoparks is to promote protection of geological heritage, increase public awareness of Earth sciences, to support special tourism and sustainable development within the geoparks.
