Kovářův mlýn

Rock outcrop.

The cliffs and the outcrop display rocks stratigraphically pertaining to the so-called Rudník Horizon – a unit lying at the very base of the Permian near the boundary with the Carboniferous. It comprises especially green-grey siltstones, arcoses and thinly bedded, leaf-disintegrating bituminous claystones. The latter were extracted by the local population as fuel until the early 20th century. This site is well known for its finds of fossil fauna; paleontological research has been conducted for decades here. Several floral and faunal species have been reported, most notably amphibians, sharks, acanthodians, fishes and conchostracans.
