Quarries.
Jílové u Držkova.

Several abandoned, vegetated and partly flooded quarries lie in the proximity of Železný Brod. In the past, they yielded phyllites of the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline Complex, referred to as roofing slates. They are usually grey-green or purplish, locally with quartz lenses. Bedding is identical with schistosity, which allowed the preservation of numerous ichnofossils. Even body fossils were found recently, which makes this site unique throughout the world. Based on the fossil content, the exposed unit can be ranked to the Ordovician. It is the only site in the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline Complex providing such evidence. Phyllites from these quarries used to be widely used as roofing; as such, they can be found on a number of buildings in closer or farther vicinity.
