The Krkonoše Museum was established in 1891 in connection with the preparations for the Czechoslovak National History Exhibition held in Prague. Its original seat was in Dvorana, later on the ground floor of the old Town Hall on the square. It was closed during World War II due to overfull funds and lacking exhibition spaces and the exposition was deployed all over the town.
Since 1954, the Museum has had its seat in the Jilemnice Chateau. The decisive merits for the development of the Museum go to the former director of all-girls schools in Jilemnice, Jáchym Metelka.
The Museum focuses especially on the history and ethnography of the Western Krkonoše Region and the beginnings and development of the skiing sport in Bohemia. The exhibit that attracts the most attention of visitors is Metelka's mechanical crib. The ski section richly illustrates the beginnings of skiing in Bohemia. The Museum also includes a gallery, with a specific focus on the work by František Kaván.
Expositions:
1. The National History of the Western Krkonoše Region
2. František Kaván's Gallery
3. Beginnings of Skiing in the Czech Lands until 1914.
