The highest mountain in the Czech Republic, a distinctive trihedral pyramid, is elevated 1,602 metres above sea level. It is a significant dominant element in the eastern Krkonoše.

The north slopes fall on the Polish side in the valley of the Lomnička, while on the southern side in the Obří Důl. The name is derived from the adjective Sněžná i.e. covered with snow. It is believed that Mount Sněžka was climbed for the first time by an unknown Venetian in 1456.

In 1949 a chair lift was installed from Pec pod Sněžkou. Mount Sněžka is a very popular tourist destination in the Krkonoše.
