Cenozoic

In the Paleogene and Neogene (formerly referred to as the Tertiary), the Geopark territory was rather a denudational area. Sediments of this age have not been reported from here.

The youngest era – the Quaternary – was marked by the development of soils, loess, river terraces, cave sediments and freshwater limestones and travertines (tufas). All these phenomena can be found in the Geopark territory in some form. Some of the sediments yielded interesting and scientifically valuable fossils, minerals and human artefacts.
